Psychologist Profiles

Janet Caryk and Wes Miller have expertise helping individuals resolve a variety of difficulties using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions.  Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the treatment of choice for many types of problems including job stress and clinical disorders. 

Janet Caryk obtained her Masters degree in Education (Counselling) in 1985 from the University of Alberta and became a Registered Psychologist in 1987.  She worked at the University of Alberta Hospital in the Division of Clinical Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, for 13 years, resigning in January 1999 to enter full time private practice.  She maintains an academic appointment as a clinical lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, and teaches and supervises psychiatry residents to be skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Janet specializes in the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders (including obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and excessive worry), depression, and eating disorders.  She works exclusively in the area of adolescent/adult psychology. Janet is a Community Network member of Alberta Health Services's Weight Wise Program and has a special interest in health psychology.

Wes Miller obtained his Ph.D. in 1995 and became a Registered Psychologist that same year.  He has worked in the hospital system including the University of Alberta, Royal Alexandra, and Glenrose Hospitals. 

Wes specializes in the assessment and treatment of all anxiety disorders (including post-traumatic stress disorder) and depression.  He has provided psychological services to members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Edmonton Police Service members since 1999.  He also has training in the assessment and treatment of children experiencing attentional deficits, behavioral problems, and difficulties in emotional functioning (anxiety, depression, etc.). 

Wes also works directly with parents providing psychoeducation, parenting strategies, and/or family therapy as part of the specific treatment protocols that are offered.

We attend several North American conferences each year to keep current with research in the areas in which we specialize. We have extensive knowledge of psychiatric services in Edmonton.  Many referrals to our firm originate from psychiatrists and family physicians as well as employee assistance programs.
